At Collecchio, you have the choice of relaxing with a book in a secluded area of the park, exploring the many hidden hiking trails of the Natural Reserve, or even set off to discover some of the history of this beautiful area in Tuscany…
The farm’s privileged location inside the Natural Park of Maremma will allow guests to easily access the Park’s itineraries either by foot, horse-back riding, bicycle or canoe.
Only a few km from the farm is located the charming port of Talamone, where it is possible to rent a boat or spend the day at the Bagno delle Donne, which is a small bathing establishment that becomes very lively in the summer.
Right next to Talamone, those who are passionate about kytesurfing will find a small beach that is completely dedicated to this sport.
In less than an hour from the farm you can reach the Terme di Saturnia, a group of hot springs and thermal pools which are open throughout the year and were recently nominated the best hot springs in the world!
Furthermore, there are many old villages in the surrounding area that deserve a visit, from Magliano in Toscana, which is famous for its ancient walls; Pereta, known for its tower; Manciano; Sorano; Pitigliano, which is also known as the ‘small Jerusalem’; and Sovana, with its magnificent romanesque Duomo. In the area around Pitigliano, “Le vie Cave” is a unknown and beautiful itinerary where you walk inside small canyons carved by the Etruscans.
The area of Argentario, including Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, instead offers a variety of elegant shops and restaurants. Ferries from Porto Santo Stefano leave daily to the island of Giglio.
The lagoon of Orbetello witnesses beautiful sunsets every evening and is a perfect location to go for tasty appetizers or lively dinners. The shops remain open until late and you can also find the best ice-cream of the entire coast. Orbetello also has a small cinema showing movies in Italian.
For those who love history and archeology, there are many remains of old Roman and Etruscan cities in the area around the farm. The ancient cities of Roselle and Cosa are two renown archeological sites and the city of Tarquina, with its Etruscan tombs, is less than an hour’s drive by car.
If you head north along the coast you will come to the ancient small port called Castiglione della Pescaia, which becomes very lively during the summer months, with its typical shops and excellent restaurants. A bit further from the coast is the village of Massa Marittima, which is definitely worth a visit for its beauty. On the same way is also a beautiful lake called Lago dell’Accesa.
Siena, which is famous around the world for its magnificent Duomo and its biyearly Palio di Siena (horse race), is only 80 km from the farm and can be easily reached both by car or train.
Food and wine lovers definitely won’t be disappointed as the area offers some of the best the country has to offer! The food made in this area of Maremma is simple and made with genuine ingredients. Delicacies include tortelli with ricotta and spinach and tagliatelle with wild boar, all of which are home-cooked. When combined with a good Morellino di Scansano or a local Vermentino, you are sure to pass a pleasant evening!
The many fish restaurants in the area are very welcoming and will serve you their best local and fresh fish.
Nearly ten months a year the climate in this area will allow you to live outdoors and explore the beautiful nature it has to offer.
The beach of Cala di Forno is magnificent all year round, you can always go either for a horse-back ride, a picnic with friends, or to relax and get a tan.
There are also many other beaches (Giannella, Osa, Alberese…) located close to the farm where you can go for long walks or swims in a beautiful and clean sea.
